Robert Depew, 78, of Oklahoma City has been charged with second degree murder in his son's death.

Police say Depew called 911 after a fight that resulted in him shooting his 51-year-old son John Depew, Sunday night.

The suspect says he did it in self defense after the young man came at him with a hatchet.

His son was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local reports say that the deceased had just finished serving a 30-year prison sentence.
