San Diego fireworks show lasts 15 seconds

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -

Boy, there's nothing like a great fireworks show that lights up the sky, right?

Well, if you were in San Diego last night, hope you didn't blink.

A technical malfunction caused the entire dazzling display to ignite in just 15 seconds.

According to the Los Angeles Times, about five minutes before the Port of San Diego's Big Bay Boom show was expected to start, spectators saw a brilliant display from five barges where the fireworks were set up.

In a statement issued before midnight, the port said that just before the fireworks all exploded, technicians sent a signal "to the barges that would set the timing for the rest of the show after the introduction."

But previous testing signals worked flawlessly.

Many of the estimated half-million spectators were disappointed, but others finally got an answer to the question, "I wonder what would happen if they all exploded at once?"
