DWI leads to officer termination

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police chief David Brown fired police officer Kelly Schumpert Thursday for misconduct.

In February Schumpert was arrested by the Forney Police Department for driving while intoxicated and was put on restricted duty while the incident was explored by internal affairs.

After more than four months of investigation, it was determined that his behavior was not in line with the department's morale, resulting in the officer's termination from the department.

In addition, Sr. Cpl. Stanley McDaniel was issued a 30 day suspension for putting false information in a police report and a few other policy and procedure violations.

As a part of the civil service rules, the officers have a right to appeal their discipline.
