"He loved his family and his new baby, and he's my oldest son.  He was a good boy," said Sylvia Buttram.

A family is mourning the loss of their pride and joy, a young star with a bright future.  25-year-old Levi Moore, a graduate of Cass Tech, was a new dad studying microbiology at Wayne State.  He wanted to be a forensic scientist, but his life was tragically cut short.

"He was swimming at his mom's house and it was freakish," said aunt Candice Battiste.

Moore drown in a private lake Sunday night in West Bloomfield.  He was swimming to a pontoon where he family was barbecuing and having fun.  However, 30 feet from the shore, he started to struggle.  He went under and didn't resurface.  Everyone in the family jumped in to save him, but they couldn't find him.  An Oakland County dive team found him more than an hour after he sank to the bottom.

"He was a great guy and my best friend, known him for years.  It's just sad.  Gone too soon," said Jamal Hearst.
