Police are warning drivers to be cautious after two men impersonating cops pulled over and robbed a woman in Paulding County.
Chazmonne Sanders said she pulled over after she saw the blue lights in her rearview mirror along lonely Mulberry Rock Road in Paulding County.
"He came up to my driver's side and asked for my license," said Sanders.
Sanders said that the man looked like police officers and drove a black Crown Victoria that looked like a police car.
"He was dressed in black with a black baseball cap. He was dressed very professional, very clean-cut. I had no reason to think otherwise really," said Sanders.
When another man came to the window with a gun in hand, Sanders said she became scared.
"The guy was like, ‘Give me your wallet,' and I didn't even have a chance to really give him my wallet -- he just snatched it and they both ran to the car and took off," said Sanders.
The Paulding County Sheriff's Office says they are still searching for the two men. They are warning drivers -- especially women -- to be on alert.
"If you are stopped and you're not sure it's a law enforcement officer, slow your speed, turn on your hazards maybe signal your arm out the window, say, ‘Hey I'm going to pull to a safe area somewhere that's well lit.'" said Cpl. Ashley Henson of the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.
police say that you can also call 911 if you aren't sure the person flashing the lights is an officer.
Sanders said that she had avoided getting in the car altogether since the robbery until talking to FOX 5.
"I mean, this happened in broad daylight. They were that bold. It happened in broad daylight. I was running errands," said Sanders.
Paulding County officials say there have been other incidents with fake cops recently, but they aren't sure if they're connected.
