Oak tree falls on Stone Mountain home

Posted: Updated:
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -

A Stone Mountain family is assessing the damage to their home after a neighbor's large oak tree fell on it on Thursday.

Rogers Jackson said he was inside the house on Allgood Way when the tree crashed onto it around 12:30 p.m.

"I was sitting down looking at channel 5 news and all the sudden, I heard a big noise. I thought it was thunder. I got up to run to the back door and I seen the house shaking, so I ran to the front," said Rogers.

He discovered the tree had fallen on the house and his SUV, which he had just taken out of the garage minutes before.

Rogers' wife, Dorothy, wasn't home at the time. She said she had seen the tree was leaning when she left.

Rogers believes the tree roots couldn't support its massive weight.

The Jacksons said the repairs will be made easier because they had insurance.

"I'm glad that I had full coverage…They are going to cover everything," said Rogers Jackson.

No one was injured.
