DICKINSON, Texas (AP) - Police say two 5-year-old Southeast Texas siblings have been hospitalized after drinking lighter fluid from an unmarked water bottle.

Dickinson police say one girl was in critical condition Monday at a Houston hospital. The other child remained at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center where both youngsters were taken after Saturday's incident.

The Galveston County Daily News reports the children were with their mother, who had stopped at a gas station to fill up. The woman told police that the bottle was left in the car door panel since the Fourth of July.

Sgt. James Johnson says authorities are handling the incident as a criminal investigation. Police did not provide names of the girls or further details Monday.
