A man struck by lightning while fishing is now out of the hospital and talking about what happened.
Raheem Mustafa was fishing with a friend on Lake Peachtree last Friday when he says they saw clouds roll in. The two decided to get off the boat and wait out the rain on land. That's when a giant bolt of lightning struck.
"People were saying we were up in the air 15 feet and came down, I don't remember any of that," said Mustafa.
Raheem says he does remember being on the ground and not being able to move his legs. He turned his head to look at his friend.
"Being in the military, you can look at someone and know if they have life in their eyes and he didn't' have any life in his eyes at all," said Mustafa.
His friend and neighbor, Burnette "BJ" Hayes, a 52-year-old father of nine children was dead.
"The coroner said it hit BJ in the head and exited the heart and hit me in the head and exited off my hip," said Mustafa.
Raheem has third-degree burns down the right side of his body and severe headaches, but he says it's nothing compared of the pain of losing his buddy.
"It's an awakening experience, you never know when it's your time and God spared me, that's all," said Mustafa.
Burnette Hayes' funeral is Friday. His family has set up a fund to help with his three youngest children. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank.
