SNELLVILLE, Ga. -

Crews rescued two children from the Yellow River in Gwinnett County on Thursday.

Yolanda Thornton said she was leading a group of kids that included her children, some nephews and neighbors and a friend on rafts down the river. They had planned to get off at a bridge on Annistown Road in Snellville. However, the strong current prevented them from being able to stop.

Seven children and an adult were tossed out of five raft and into the water below the bridge.

"The current was so strong, it kind of knocked everyone out of their rafts," said Yolanda Thornton.

Greg Thornton, 11, and his 15-year-old cousin Gabrielle Stroud swam to some rocks and waited for help.

"I was scared out of my mind. I couldn't think of anything, just that we needed help," said Greg Thornton.

Members of the Gwinnett County Swift Water Rescue Team used a rope to help pull the two out of the river.

Yolanda Thornton said only the two youngest children were wearing life vests.

"They swim all the time in the river, so they didn't use life jackets as well, but next time –- well, I actually say we're not going to have a next time. No more next time," said Yolanda. "

There were no serious injuries, according to officials.
