ATLANTA -
An expert on domestic terrorism said that while Friday's early morning shooting at a Colorado movie theater may not be terrorism, its effect on the public is very similar.
Dr. Anthony Lemieux, a professor at Emory University's medical school, has spent much of his career studying the psychology of people who commit crimes like the shooting and the effect the attacks have on the public. He says the randomness of this attack is what makes it so difficult to deal with.
"It shows people that there are these potentials for this type of harm to visit us at seemingly any time, at any place. And so I think that's one of the things that's going to go more broadly. I think it gives us an opportunity, as a public, as a general society to think more about how resilient we can be in the face of these kinds of tragedies and attacks," said Lemieux.
Dr. Lemieux says as he watches and studies the Aurora, Co. incident, he'll be focused on two things: the background and biography of the shooter, and how the public comes together and deals with the fear and the grief.
