Snellville woman drowns in Florida

SNELLVILLE, Ga. -

The Gwinnett County community is mourning the loss of a mother who drowned off the coast of Florida last week.

Jacqueline Landaverde, 36, and her husband, Daniel, were on a family vacation at Longboat Key when a current took them too far from the shore last Wednesday, according to her brother-in-law, Jose Chavez.

Chavez said he and three other men swam out to the Snellville woman and brought her back to the shore, where they administered CPR. Emergency personnel also tried to save the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A funeral was held for Landaverde at her church, Centro Cristiano Monte Sinai. Chavez is the pastor at that church.

"Jacqueline, she's a very good person. She smiled at people," said Chavez.

Landaverde's body will flown back to her homeland, Guatemala, where she will be buried, Chavez said.
