Source: no wounds in Harper's back

Posted: Updated:

Police sources tell FOX 4 News that suspect James Harper, who was shot by a police officer on Tuesday, had no wounds in his back.

The source said Harper had four bullet wounds on his stomach, upper torso and elbow. There were no entry or exit wounds on his back.

Family members and community members said Harper was shot in the back as he fled from officer Brian Rowland

Neither the Dallas County medical examiner nor the police department would officially confirm the information, saying it will take at least four to six weeks for a final autopsy report.

Also on Wednesday, police revealed what investigators found inside the South Dallas home where Harper was first spotted by police.

DPD sources tell FOX 4 that investigators recovered guns and drugs after executing a search warrant at 5316 Bourquin St. in south Dallas.

According to sources, officers recovered these items:

  • Ruger P95 9mm handgun
  • Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun
  • 171 grams of marijuana
  • 16.1 grams of PCP (38 vials)
  • 30.1 grams of crack cocaine (inside house)
  • 19 grams crack cocaine (outside house)
  • 24.1 grams Xanax
  • 52.1 grams Hydrocodone

Additionally, investigators recovered nine cell phones, four digital scales and a partial drug ledger, sources said.

They also said $437 was recovered from the right front pants pocket of Harper, who was killed after fighting with a responding officer, police said.

Immediately following the shooting and throughout most of the evening, a chaotic and demonstrative crowd swelled, diminished and regrouped, yelling at police and members of the media before eventually dispersing amid nightfall.
