Candlelight vigil held for missing Westland teens

Posted: Updated:
LIVONIA, Mich. (WJBK) -

It has been four days since two teens from Westland disappeared in Detroit. A $25,000 reward is now offered for their safe return. Thursday night, loved ones of Jourdan Bobbish and Jake Kudla were holding onto candles and hope.

They were told to bring their candles and caring hearts to the vigil at Livonia's Churchill High School. Hundreds showed up hoping their prayers would help bring 17-year-old Jourdan Bobbish and 18-year-old Jake Kudla home.

"I am overwhelmed with ... I can't even describe. It's just the feeling of support, and we are bringing our boys home," said Virgie Kudla, Jake's mom.

"It gives you extra hope and energy, and I really appreciate that, you know, how much we're loved and how good the community is," said Mike Bobbish, Jourdan's dad.

The Westland teens have been missing since Sunday, last seen at Jake's uncle's house near Seven Mile and Hoover on Detroit's east side. The next day, Jake's 2001 white Cavalier was found behind an apartment building on Beechwood, but the teens were nowhere to be found.

With still no sign of their friends, each passing day is torture to those who care about them most.

"Scary. It's like frustrating because you don't know. It's like the not knowing part, of having no idea of what happened to them," said friend Kalei Stewart.

"I miss my brother. I just want him to come home," said Jillian Bobbish. "He's like my best friend."

"I drove in from out of state for this, to be here for this, and just terrible," said friend John Callen. "I feel like they were getting gas because they said something about that someone said and that maybe because he had loud speakers and they had nice shoes, they had nice clothes on, they saw them as an easy target."

We're told Jourdan had just been paid and had a lot of money with him that night. Some friends and family fear the two were carjacked. Investigators suspect the teens were trying to make an illegal drug buy because they had just been given drugs by Jake's uncle earlier that night, and they may have met up with the wrong people.

How their Caviler ended up behind an apartment building is still unclear. Police arrested two men who lived there who were allegedly caught with their stereo equipment and wiping down the car with bleach. Police searched their apartment Wednesday night and collected some evidence, but it's still unclear if the two men are connected to the disappearance of Jake and Jourdan.

Family and friends refuse to give up hope, spending all day Thursday searching that same area and beyond for the two. The love and support are evident. Now they just want their boys to come home.

"Sheer faith I am going to bring my son home because there's no other choice," Kudla said.

"Even when I'm handing out flyers in the scariest neighborhoods in the world, the people are so warm," Mike Bobbish said. "They're rooting for you. They're looking for you. We just need a tip."

Crime Stoppers is offering a $25,000 reward for the location of these teens. Remember, you have to call 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You don't have to leave your name.
