Officials say lightning caused several house fires across metro Atlanta on Thursday.
In Gwinnett County, fire fully engulfed the side of a home after a lightning strike. No one was home at the time. An alert neighbor ran into the home and rescued four dogs, according to Dale Bryan, the homeowner's boyfriend.
Four people were displaced with a lightning strike caused a fire at a home on Georgian Point Drive.
Another lightning strike caused a fire on Stoneforest Drive.
A lightning bolt hit a home on Kitty's Court in Powder Springs around 3 p.m. There were two children inside the home at the time, according to authorities. The kids smelled smoke in the attic and escaped to a neighbor's home.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to take the fire down, officials said.
Earlier on Thursday, firefighters said they worked another fire caused by lightning in Kennesaw.
There were no injuries in any of the incidents, authorities said.
