Health officials have closed Lily Lake to swimmers until further notice while the Minnesota Department of Health investigates the death of an 9-year-old boy.
Visitation and funeral services are set for this coming weekend to remember the 9-year-old Stillwater boy who died days after swimming in Lily Lake from a suspected amebic infection.
Jack Ariola was set to begin his first Squirt season as a goalie after spending many years in the Forest Lake Hockey Association's Mite program when he died unexpectedly on Aug. 6.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, at the Roberts Family Funeral Home located at 555 Centennial Dr. SW in Forest Lake. The funeral will follow on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, located at 9185 Lexington Ave. North in Circle Pines. An additional visitation will precede the funeral service, starting at 10 a.m.
Attending members of the hockey association are encouraged to wear their jerseys in honor of Ariola's love of hockey.
A trust has also been set up in the boy's memory, and FLHA said it plans to make a generous donation to the Jack Ariola Erenberg Trust on behalf of its members.
