Police used a Taser on a man accused of stealing bath salts from a storm in Sandy Springs.
The Smoke 911 shop on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs called police over the weekend after they said someone stole $2,000 worth of EightBallzs, a bath salt brand.
Police said they that the suspect, Damien Williams, led them on a foot chase. They said Williams jumped over a fence, fell to the ground and kept going. Authorities said that Williams had his hands in his backpack and wouldn't listen to their commands so they Tased him.
Bath salts are illegal in Georgia, but because of their complicated chemical formulas many stores have found a way to legally sell them by changing their formula.
Police say it's frustrating and nearly impossible to keep up with the tweaks and changes to brands and formulas that keep some types of the drug in stores.
"What we're seeing its not just here, it's nationwide, it's almost bizarre behavior from people that… totally lose any sense of rationalization," said Captain Steve Rose of the Sandy Springs Police Department.
Cherokee County officials have begun using laser and computer devices that allow authorities to find out the substance's ingredients in seconds.
The Smoke 911 Shop had no comment about the bath salt brand they sell.
"I'm sure because this whole topic is new, this whole realm of substance is new, that they'll be a lot of jockeying back and forth on what is or is not legal," said Rose.
Police had just arrested Williams the day before the incident and confiscated his bath salts.
Police say he then went to the store and demanded that the store replace those bath salts police took and then allegedly came back a few hours later and stole them.
