After a long wait, probably a little stress and some emotional goodbyes, students at the University of Texas at Arlington are getting their first chance to move into the university's new dorms.
The College Park District is a 20-acre addition to the UTA campus. It includes a dorm and student lofts that will house about 600 students.
There's also a restaurant built in to the lower level of Vandergriff Hall. Ten businesses are expected to fill those spaces.
UTA President James Spaniolo and Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck greeted the incoming students and their families on move in day. They agreed that in recent years UTA has become much more than a commuter campus.
"It's a huge addition to downtown Arlington and it's like the equivalent of adding a campus to our university," Spaniolo said.
Classes start on Thursday.
