Suspect uses Facebook to turn himself in

Posted: Updated:

A murder suspect is now behind bars after surrendering to police online.

Dallas police said 44-year-old Augustine Gonzalez wrote on the Northeast Division's Facebook page that he wanted to turn himself in to law enforcement but was still in Mexico.

He was wanted for killing a man who was sitting in a parked car in the 3100 block of Chapel Creek on April 2, 2010.

Detectives were able to communicate with him via Facebook. They convinced him to walk to the nearest border check point and turn himself in to United States authorities.

Gonzales was arrested Friday night at the border near Juarez, Mexico and is now in the San Diego County Jail.

He is facing murder charges.
