A big little dog named Obie is capturing hearts across America thanks to talk shows and Facebook.
Obie, a standard dachshund (sometimes called a "weiner dog") that weighed 77 lbs., was adopted by a woman in Portland, Washington.
She says on Facebook that Obie's previous owners were an elderly couple in failing health. They "just couldn't say no" to his brown eyes, and were literally feeding him to death.
Immediately, the new owner put Obie on a new diet and exercise routine, and he's already lost six pounds. She hopes to ultimately trim 40 pounds from his frame.
She's also raising money to pay for 5-year-old Obie's upcoming swim therapy and treadmill treatments.
On the Facebook Page called "Biggest Loser, Doxie Edition," new owner Nora wrote, "My hope is that he can be an inspiration to any person or animal trying to lose weight."
Support from around the world is pouring in, especially after Obie appeared on the Today Show.
Besides donating to Obie's Pay Pal site, other pet owners are posting pictures of their animals cheering Obie on.
Jake from Yakima, Washington is another dachshund pictured wearing a sign that reads, "You can do it, Obie!!"
