North Texas woman gets 50 years in deadly plot

MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) - A North Texas woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in a plea deal over the 2007 killing of her estranged husband.

Vera Elizabeth Guthrie-Nail pleaded guilty Wednesday in McKinney to conspiracy to commit capital murder.

Guthrie-Nail was on trial on charges of capital murder and solicitation for capital murder. She could have received life in prison without parole if convicted.

The case involves the fatal shooting of Craig Nail at the Frisco home the couple once shared. Nail's girlfriend was wounded. The Nails were divorcing and in a custody dispute over their daughter.

The man charged with killing Nail pleaded guilty last year to capital murder. Mark Lyle Bell was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Guthrie-Nail's plea deal came as Bell testified in her trial.
