LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Police video shows a West Texas officer fatally shooting a pit bull while separating two dogs as they fought in a parking lot.
KCBD-TV reports Lubbock police on Wednesday released the patrol car camera video of the Sept. 8 incident.
Critics questioned whether the dog that was killed was dangerous. Police have defended the officer's actions.
Officer Clinton Lewis has his gun drawn while walking toward the fighting dogs outside a grocery store. Several people are nearby. The video shows Lewis waiving the bystanders back, kicking 1 of the animals to part the pair and shooting one dog.
Lewis wrote in his follow-up report that an aggressive pit bull was attacking another dog. Lewis says he and others were in danger.
Animal control officers removed both dogs.
