ROWLETT, Texas -

An 18-year-old student at Rowlett High School was arrested for carrying a loaded pistol to class on Thursday.

A teacher told the school's resource officer about rumors that a student was possibly in possession of a weapon in her classroom.

The officer and the assistant principal together confronted Carlos Bernard Perkins and asked if he had a gun in his backpack. The student admitted he did.

They found a loaded 9mm pistol in Perkins' backpack.

The 18-year-old is now in the Rowlett Police Department facing a felony charge of unlawful carry of a weapon in a weapon-free zone.

Rowlett police did not say why he brought the gun to class. No one was hurt in the incident.
