A new tip in the decades long search for Jimmy Hoffa has led investigators to a small home in Macomb County. Crews will soon begin digging in the area of 12 Mile and Gratiot in Roseville. Police are focusing their attention on the back of a driveway.
ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -
A tip that Jimmy Hoffa's body may be buried under the driveway of a Roseville home has turned a once quiet neighborhood street into a busy thoroughfare complete with curious gawkers taking pictures and members of the media standing by.
"I'm excited for Friday," said David Cole, who lives across from the home on the corner of Kelly and Florida Street. "I know something's under there."
State officials plan to take soil samples from beneath the driveway Friday in the search for human decomposition.
A ground scan performed last week unveiled an anomaly in the soil about two feet under. Police say it could be a tree stump or a family pet, but an old union boss? Not likely. "The time frame is off so we don't believe it's Jimmy Hoffa," said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin.
Hoffa was last seen on July 30, 1975, outside a Bloomfield Hills restaurant. His body has not been found.
In the meantime, police have set up yellow tape around the home as a deterrent to passerbys. Officers are also patrolling the streets to keep traffic moving.
