Police shut down car wash drug ring

Posted: Updated:

Ten people were arrested this week for their involvement in what Dallas police said was a major drug distribution ring in Oak Cliff.

Police said a car wash at 4870 Sunnyvale Street was the vehicle for a drug operation in the Ledbetter – Sunnyvale neighborhood.

"It was a lot of activity out here before that happened the other day. It was a lot of people be out here early in the morning trying to get drugs," said Nicole Murphy, an area resident.

Neighbors asked police to open an investigation. Six months later officers were able to take down 10 suspects who they identified as both street-level drug dealers and mid-level suppliers.

They include Justin Veasley, Ricky Crosby, Frances Robinson, Alan Williams, Herman Jones, Shakeena Cephas, Cardell Wynn, Arthur Jones, Christopher Wilson and Billy Skinner.

Police also hit two houses, called traps, where they seized cars, guns and drugs including PCP, crack cocaine, marijuana and K-2.

Hiawatha Williams owns fast food chicken restaurants that carry his name.

"Without the police department, we wouldn't be here," he said.

But Williams warns it's not the police but the community that has to do what it can to keep the neighborhood clean.

"If each one of us would do one thing we could make a difference and turn this thing around. It ain't gonna happen overnight, either," he said.
