Stranded mom rescued by good Samaritans

WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

A mother in distress says she was stranded on a highway with her baby when several good Samaritans came to her aid.

Fox 2's Ronnie Dahl talked to the grateful mom.

Money is tight for Haley Sikora. She was on her way to Jeepers to pick up a deposit. She had plans to use the money to put gas in her car when she became stranded. In her moments of despair she received the gift of gratitude. Haley cherishes her young son, Lennie. She knows her one mistake could have brought them a lifetime of pain.

"I am always hearing about people getting hit and killed on the side of the road, so it really scared me," she said.

On Sept. 26 as the sun started to set, Haley ran out of gas at the Lapeer road exit off I-75 north. Far away from home, she grabbed her son, put him in the stroller and started walking. She knew it was dangerous, but she had to do something. Then, help arrived in the way of strangers.

"I made it 20 feet away from the car and 4 different cars pulled over asked if I was ok," Haley told Fox 2. "Two of them offered to go back to the car and they would bring me gas."

The strangers returned with enough gasoline to get Haley and her son to this nearby gas station where another guardian angel entered her life. A man who noticed she had been crying.

"He was like, 'I will just get you some gas. Ok?" she recalled. "He put $50 in my tank, and put air in my tires."

The young mother is so grateful for the kindness of strangers she shared her story on the FOX 2 Facebook page. Her post had more than 30,000 "likes!"
