A witness dropped a verbal bombshell in the trial of a man accused of murdering an Arlington pastor early Wednesday.
The girlfriend of accused killer Steven Lawayne Nelson admitted under questioning that "she" is actually a "he."
According to FOX 4's Dionne Anglin, who is following the trial, the defense attorney pointed it out by saying, "I don't want to embarrass you, but you're dressed as a woman.. But you are a man, correct?"
After attorneys argued whether the witness's gender was relevant, the questioning ended and the witness was excused.
It's a new twist in the case against Nelson, who was arrested a few days after the March 2011 murder of pastor Clint Dobson.
Dobson was asphyxiated and his assistant Judy Elliot was severely beaten in the attack at the Northpointe Baptist Church in Arlington.
Police later arrested Nelson and an acquaintance after friends reported the duo was bragging about the murder. A grand jury cleared the acquaintance and he does not face charges.
Also on Wednesday, jurors were shown security photos of a man, allegedly Nelson, who used the pastor's credit card to purchase jewelry and clothes at the Parks Mall.
