Garland man charged in beer argument murder

Posted: Updated:
GARLAND, Texas -

Police arrested a 23-year-old man who they say shot another person in an argument over beer.

Jose Ramon Cruz, Jr. is facing a murder charge and is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

According to police, just after midnight on Monday Cruz walked up to three people who were standing in a front yard in the 4100 block of Walnut Street.

Cruz asked if he could buy one of the beers the group was drinking. The trio told him no, and Cruz left --- only to return a short time later.

When he asked to buy a beer again, 25-year-old Dinh Ngo again told him no, then approached Cruz to tell him to leave the property.

Police say that's when Cruz pulled out a gun and shot Ngo.

The other two men grabbed Cruz and held him until police arrived. Ngo was rushed to Parkland Hospital, where he later died.
