It combines the cardio high of an endurance run with enough of a thrill to keep the adrenaline junkie satisfied. For most, mountain biking isn't a sport you think about when you picture the rolling hills of Southeast Michigan, but think again.
"Right outside metro Detroit, there (are) quite a few local trails about (a) half hour from your door," said Jeff Radki from Macomb Bike and Fitness.
Addison Oaks, Stoney Creek, Bald Mountain just to name a few. The options are endless and they don't disappoint.
"Not a lot of hills, but they make them as aggressive as they can. Obstacles, they've got what they call rock gardens, which throw a bunch of big boulders and rocks that you've got to ride over. Log piles, so they'll cut logs and throw the logs in the middle of the trail," Radke explained.
Maybe that sounds too intimidating for your taste. No worries, there are trails for every skill level.
"Stoney Creek is a great place for beginners because they do have novice trails and the more advanced trails, so you can start out at the wider stuff and then work your way up," Radke said.
