Police: Elderly swindled out of $100,000

Posted: Updated:

Dallas Police say 53-year old Ricky Carr stole a total of $100,000 from senior citizens by pretending to be  a police officer.

One victim gave FOX 4 a recording from last year of a man who used the name 'Captain Jack Gutter'.

The 71-year old victim, who did not want her name used, says this 'Captain Gutter' told her that her identity had been stolen and that she had to tell him about her bank accounts immediately.

He said they also suspected the identity thief of bank fraud so she had to withdraw a large amount of money and the bills had to be inspected.

The victim tells us -- while she was on the phone with the Captain -- Carr jumped into her car at an East Dallas McDonald's.   He was wearing a suit and looked professional.   He gave her a secret 'code word' and then took her $30,000.

Police say they do have other reports of the second man but have not arrested anyone else.

Surveillance video provided by DPD also shows Carr allegedly in action.  This victim is an 81-year old woman who is using a walker.  It was taken at the Inwood Tavern earlier this year.  Police say, Carr took thousands more from this woman.

There are 11 police reports related to the investigation into Carr.

He is in the Dallas County Jail charged with Theft.
