A 5-year-old girl is safe because her grandfather fought off a would-be robber in his Fort Worth home.
Mario Quinto said it started with a knock at the front door on Thursday. Two men were asking whether the man of the house was home and his wife said no to get them to leave.
But then the men went around to the back of house possibly thinking it would be an easy place to rob. Quinto said he was actually sitting on the back porch reading and heard them break through the fence.
The 76-year-old grandfather who only speaks Spanish said one man had a sharp metal tool in his hand and was waiving it demanding money.
He tried to block him from the back door but he got through anyway. That's when he started yelling.
Quinto said his first thought was his 5-year-old granddaughter who was asleep. His wife and daughter-in-law were also in the house.
He said one the man grabbed a bag of presents. He immediately grabbed it too and they started to struggle.
His wife, Virginia, came in at about that time and started screaming too. A few seconds later the man dropped the bag and ran off with his partner.
Quinto said he always tells his children not to fight back, but this time he said he went into protection mode and stood his ground.
No one was injured and the robbers weren't able to steal anything.
