Man arrested for Petland robberies

PLANO, Texas -

Plano police arrested one of two suspects they said stole puppies worth thousands of dollars from area pet stores.

Darrell Wayne Ramirez, 27, is charged with one count of burglary of a building.

Police said he is the man seen on surveillance taking nine dogs of various breeds from Petland stores in Frisco and Plano.

Investigators said they are still looking for the woman who drove his getaway car.

They also haven't recovered any of the dogs.

One of the pet store owners said she's glad there has been an arrest, but she's concerned about the puppies' safety.

"I was relieved but somewhat disappointed when they didn't find the puppies. But I was relieved that this gentleman will not be coming in through the store again and try to repeat what happened," said Lisa Abair.

Police said people who may have bought the dogs will not face charges if they did not know the dogs were stolen.

All the animals were microchipped and hopefully that will help police track them down.

In all, the nine puppies were worth about $12,000.
