HOUSTON (AP) - A Texas beer bust has left a truck driver charged with stealing about 1,500 cases of brew.
Prosecutors in Houston say Sundiata Bilal Simba has been charged with felony theft.
Simba was being held Thursday on $40,000 bond. Online jail records did not list an attorney for Simba, who was booked Tuesday.
The Houston Chronicle reports Simba on Sept. 21 left Houston for Corpus Christi, then called his boss to say the truck broke down. A warrant says Simba later called his boss to say he sold the beer because he needed the money.
Houston police on Sept. 25 received a tip about beer being sold from rental trailers. Police on Oct. 2 found damaged beer boxes and wrapping with bar codes, including one that matched the missing load.
