Neighbor shoots 2 burglary suspects

Posted: Updated:
FORT WORTH, Texas -

Fort Worth police are investigating double shooting that happened Thursday afternoon following a break in.

Police said at about 2:30 p.m. a woman noticed a man with a baseball bat trying to break in to her neighbor's home in the 10000 block of Tulare Lane. She called for help.

Officers arrived at the scene just as the burglar and his getaway driver were trying to leave.

Police said a citizen who was riding along in the squad car jumped out and began pursing one suspect on foot.

A neighbor then came outside and fired at both suspects because he said he thought they had just run over an officer.

The men were transported to a local hospital in unknown conditions. No one else was hurt.

Police are still interviewing the witnesses. They are also trying to determine if the neighbor should face any charges. His case will likely be referred to a grand jury, they said.

MedStar officials originally reported the incident as an officer-involved shooting. However, police said no officers fired shots.
