Oak Cliff churchgoers robbed

Posted: Updated:

Minutes after the end of a Wednesday night prayer meeting a pastor and parishioner of an Oak Cliff church were robbed at gun point.

It happened as Terry Harris and Pastor Ebbie Thomas walked outside to make sure an elderly member who lives nearby got home safely.

A young man walking down the street stopped in front of the church and a car pulled up. That's when they said the robbery plot unfolded.

"And then that car sped off and then all of a sudden he made a few steps forward and then he turned and ran this way back towards us and then said, 'This is a hold up,'" Pastor Thomas said.

"He said to me, 'Give me your purse.' And I gave him my purse and at that point I gave him my case and dropped my Bible case. I commenced to walk off to go back in the church and he pulled the gun on me. He said,' Ma'am, don't go nowhere,'" Harris said.

The polite robber gathered their belongings and took off.

Police said later that night another woman on the same street reported armed men demanding money from her. She had none so they ran away.

The investigation is ongoing.
