A man accused of assaulting a woman and stealing her underwear is behind bars. Police said he also may be connected to a series of residential burglaries in the M Streets neighborhood of Dallas.
Dallas police would not discuss any details about the case, but the victim told FOX 4 the man tried to strangle her and punched her in the face.
"When he was strangling me I kept fighting. He kept squeezing my neck," she said.
The 34-year-old woman did not want her name released because she is still disturbed by the attack that left her with a black eye and bruises on her arms.
A week ago she was in bed when police said 33-year-old Gabriel Hernandez Machuca broke into her house on Vanderbilt Avenue.
"Ran into my room, jumped on top of me and pinned me down in my bed," she said.
She fought back.
"I take a swing and hit him in the head and he punches me in the face," she said.
She also tried to reason with Machuca.
"Please don't do this. Take whatever you want, just please don't hurt me," she said.
He loosened his grip on her neck, took some of her underwear from a drawer and ran out of the house.
"I'm very lucky. It could have been a very different outcome," she said.
The victim said her neighbor's security camera captured the man driving away. Police were able to get a license plate from that video and that's how they tracked Machuca down.
When officers confronted him, police said he confessed to the attack and another burglary.
He is being held on a $100,000 bond for burglary and also has an immigration hold.
"The fact that this guy has been caught is one step closer to the healing process," the victim said.
