Newborn found abandoned in Corsicana

CORSICANA, Texas -

Detectives in Navarro County are searching for a mother who abandoned her newborn son outside a house Sunday evening.

Corsicana police say just before 9 p.m., someone found a newborn boy wrapped in a towel and a pillowcase, then placed in a handbag.

The baby, whose umbilical cord was still attached, was put outside a door under a carport in the 500 block of North 38th Street.

Paramedics rushed the baby to Navarro Regional Hospital, not far down the street. The child was admitted for observation.

Police are asking any clinics and hospitals in North Texas to be on the lookout for any female who may appear to have recently given birth, but has no child.

Chief Randy Bratton tells FOX 4 News the infant was very small but otherwise healthy. If you can help detectives with identifying the newborn, please call 903-654-4902.
