A Tarrant County pastor is dead along with the man who allegedly assaulted him in a bizarre incident at a popular Forest Hill church.
Around lunchtime Monday, Forest Hill police say a sedan smashed into the side of Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church on Forest Hill Drive.
According to witnesses, the driver got out of the vehicle ,even though it was stuck halfway into the building, went around to a church door and went inside.
When police arrived, they found the suspect beating the Rev. Danny Kirk Sr. with an electric guitar, officials said. A Forest Hill police spokesman said officers used a Taser on the suspect before handcuffing him and taking him to a squad car outside.
Minutes later, the officers checked on the suspect again and found him unconscious. He was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The suspect is described as a being a man in his mid 20s to early 30s.
Police said they still don't know if he knew Kirk or why he attacked him.
Two other people were in the church at the time, police said: a janitor and a secretary. The secretary managed to lock herself in the office during the attack and called 911. The janitor was injured during the assault but is expected to recover.
As the unusual story unfolding church members were seen hugging each other on the lawn in front of the church.
