Clarice Tinsley's Hometown Hero this week has no tricks, only treats for the children in the Child Life Department at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
Linda Cox is a retired teacher. When she left her Dallas classroom she didn't want to leave children behind, so for the last two and a half years she's volunteered at the hospital where her daughter was once treated.
Cox has donated 500 hours of her time. Recently she helped patients paint plastic pumpkins for Halloween. The children will keep them in their hospital rooms or take them home.
Elnora Mickel is the grandmother of one young patient. She said Cox reminds her of "a grandmother with kids who likes to have fun."
The former teacher said she does. She also said she wants the children in Child Life to have fun and be care free.
Later this week, Cox plans to dress up like Minnie Mouse for the hospital's Disney-themed Halloween party. She'll help the kids trick or treat in the hallways.
