Claudia HidicFORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A man in whose North Texas home a teenage girl was killed in a failed robbery has himself been found dead in a burning vehicle.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said firefighters found the body of 44-year-old Robert Excell Dodson II in a flaming SUV Sunday night 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
Sheriff's Lt. Tim Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the death was a homicide, but he wouldn't specify the cause.
Dodson found 17-year-old Claudia Hidic dead of a gunshot wound on the back doorstep of his Fort Worth home on June 28.
Investigators later concluded Hidic was caught in the crossfire in an attempted home robbery she had conceived "because she knew he wouldn't be home and that he had drugs and money there," according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Terrance Crumley and Curtis Fortenberry have been indicted on capital murder charges.
