WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - Trick-or-treaters in Warren could cash in on an extra sweets after the city's mayor suggested residents hold off on passing out candy until Friday night.
Mayor Jim Fouts says forecasted rain, wind and chilly temperatures prompted numerous calls from concerned citizens over the safety of trick-or-treating Wednesday night.
"At a minimum, it would be very uncomfortable for small children," said Fouts.
Tuesday's announcement spread over social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, leaving citizens confused as to whether Halloween was officially canceled. "This is purely a suggestion," said Fouts. "This is not mandatory."
Fouts suggests residents who plan to pass out candy on either night leave a porch light on as a signal to parents.
"I feel like it's going to be two Halloweens," said Warren resident Bobby Carnaghi.
Fouts plans to hand out candy both Wednesday and Friday night. He says he spent an extra $48 on candy to make sure he has enough.
Trick-or-treat forecasts call for temps to dip into the low 40s with cloudy skies and light rain.
