Police have arrested a man for the stabbing death of a 15-year-old Rockwall girl.
Baeza's mother's estranged boyfriend, 41-year-old Juan Torres, called police on Thursday to confess to the murder.
He told investigators he killed the teen in a fit of rage following an argument that had something to do with money and a pawn shop.
Police had said there were no signs of forced entry and Baeza was found still wearing her jewelry, so she had not been robbed. She also was not sexually assaulted.
They also said she'd made no previous outcries for help. By all accounts, she was a good kid who was on the honor roll and in her school band.
One of her brother's friends was likely one of the last people to see her alive. He had stopped by her house after school and saw her lying on the couch.
"I go, 'Did you go to school?' She said no. And I was right there waiting on the couch like where she was on the other couch and she was watching a cartoon movie and texting people," said Ivan Herreros.
Herreros said the family didn't immediately realize she was dead because it appeared as though she was sleeping on the floor and in the 911 call her mother said her door had been locked. But they said when her brother found her she was already cold.
Police said Torres is being held in the Rockwall County jail while awaiting formal charges.
There is a community meeting about the crime scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Lakepointe Church community center.
The family did not attend the church, but the center is in the neighborhood and members thought it would be a good idea to have people on hand who could offer counseling and try to answer concerns.
A memorial service for Baeza will also be held there on Friday at 7 p.m.
