News crews were getting their first look at Union Beach, New Jersey in Monmouth County on Friday after flooding and road closures made the small community by the water inaccessible.

The borough sits on the edge of the Raritan Bay.

Superstorm Sandy tore through the area and destroyed approximately 100 homes.

Footage of the aftermath showed building after building missing large portions including one house that lost its front, exterior.

Strong winds and rain broke through the concrete at the American Legion Post.

All that could be visible from another building was the building's frame and a staircase.

County officials are offering food and water to residents at three distribution centers.

The centers open at 9 a.m. on Friday:

Union beach servicing Keyport to Atlantic Highlands

Monmouth race track servicing Sea Bright to Allenhurst

Peddlers Village in Wall Township servicing Asbury Park to Braille

A center collection point was set up at Tompson Park on Route 520 in Lincroft.

Donations needed included water, non-perishables, sockes, underwear and new clothes.

National guard will be on site .
