After spending a day in jail Juan Enrique Torres penned a written confession describing how, but not why, he killed 15-year-old Surie Baeza, according to court documents.
Torres said he went over to the Baeza house on Tuesday afternoon and found Surie there alone, according to the affidavit. He said he began arguing with the girl about a ring.
Torres admitted to hitting Surie in the head with a wooden closet rod before stabbing her to death with a kitchen knife, but did not explain what caused him to snap, according to the document.
An autopsy report showed Surie tried to fight back but was overpowered.
Torres wrote that he cleaned the knife, locked Surie's body in her room, took the rod and bloody paper towels, and left. He said he threw the items, along with his shoes, into a trash bin in Dallas.
Torres had lived with the Baeza family for eight years and is the father of Surie's 7-year-old brother.
He has had a previous arrest for domestic violence in 2008 and four outstanding traffic violations in Rockwall.
