Drivers on Central Expressway dodge falling car engine

Posted: Updated:

North Central Expressway closed for a few hours over the weekend after a car's engine fell from an overpass onto the busy lanes below.

At around 1 a.m. Sunday, police say a driver tried to turn on to the service road near Fitzhugh Avenue.

Instead, the driver hit a guardrail on the overpass. The vehicle was left dangling over the highway.

While the car didn't fall on to the freeway below, its engine dropped out and onto the expressway.

Police shut down the southbound lanes of the highway and the frontage road, for several hours, during the clean-up process.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control.

Remarkably, no one was hurt.
