Bus driver had heart attack before crash: spokesman

DALLAS -

A driver who smashed a school bus into the side of an apartment building Tuesday evening suffered a heart attack before the accident, according to a spokesman.

Dallas County Schools public information officer Susan Falvo said in a statement, "Our concern is for the health of the driver. Our hearts and prayers are with the driver."

The smaller-sized yellow bus smashed halfway through a wall of the Oasis Park Apartments at Ledbetter Drive and Bonnie View Road about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two children were on board, but were not hurt. The driver and an adult monitor on board were taken to the hospital, according to sources on the scene.

The bus apparently struck some vehicles in the parking lot before it rammed the building, witnesses said.

Inside the apartment, three small children under the age of 3 were sitting on the sofa watching cartoons, said their mother.

The bus narrowly missed the children, but ruined the apartment.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
