Police are searching for a masked man behind a brazen robbery in Douglasville on Tuesday.
The man, disguised in an old man mask, bright blue gloves, red pants and work boots robbed the Bank of the Ozarks on Chapel Hill Road in Douglasville, according to police.
"He made a threat that he had a gun but he never brandished the weapon," said Detective Clinton Ratliff with the Douglas County Sheriff'
Ratliff says the man fled out the back, leaving how he entered by climbing over this fence. Investigators discovered a deliberately cut path to a spot on interstate 20 where the bank robber was apparently picked up.
"They were literally physically cut with what appears to be pruning shears or something to that effect," said Ratliff.
Police say residents in a nearby neighborhood spotted a white Kia Soul with a man at the wheel parked in front of an abandoned home at the time of the bank robbery. It's believed that's the getaway car which whisked away the bank robber in the old man mask.
"There was much preparation beforehand that leads me to believe that they've done this kind of thing before," said Ratliff.
Ratliff says a check of a data bank of metro Atlanta bank robberies has not turned up any previous heists with the same method of operation as the grandpa mask bandit. He is checking with other agencies in neighboring states.
