Cops: Angry NY man drove into officer in gas line

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTONVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 62-year-old man has been charged after he drove his car into a police officer who had told him to move out of a line at a Hudson Valley gasoline station during the post-Sandy fuel shortage.

Police in the Orange County village of Washingtonville tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that 62-year-old Robert Rabinowitz was at the end of the line at convenience store on Sunday when the officer told him to drive around again because he was blocking the entrance to a neighboring gas station.

Police say Rabinowitz argued with the officer, then drove into him. The officer suffered injuries to his leg, back and head. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Charges against Rabinowitz include reckless endangerment and assault. Information on his lawyer wasn't available.
