Con Ed CEO apologizes for persistent outages

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- Consolidated Edison Chairman and CEO Kevin Burke said he is "very sorry that so many people are suffering because their lights are out" more than a week after Superstorm Sandy hit the area.

Speaking at the opening of a storm recovery center in White Plains, Burke said the company also has to do a better job communicating with customers and is doing what it can to improve the flow of information.

He said the power company can now tell people what day their power will be restored.

Burke said the company's largest previous storm-related outage was 200,000 customers while this storm took out 975,000 customers.

 He said everyone should have power back in a couple of days.
