Denton firefighters shave their heads

Posted: Updated:
DENTON, Texas -

Dozens of Denton firefighters cut off their hair Thursday in support of one of their own.

Mike Bell has been battling brain cancer for more than a year.

To show their support, his fellow firefighters came to the Central Fire Station in Denton to shave their heads.

At first, event organizers expected only a few people to take the challenge, but at least 60 men and women responded.

They sat down in the chair and Bell went to work shaving their heads.

"You don't get a better brotherhood than the fire department. These guys are great," he said. "They offer to come to do things around the house, anything we need they are just a phone call away."

The firefighters are also planning a motorcycle ride and bowling tournament for the family.

In January Bell will celebrate 20 years of service with the Denton Fire Department as a firefighter, driver and paramedic.
