Newly reelected President Barack Obama will visit New York on Thursday, November 15, 2012, to view the damage and recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy, the White House said Friday.

The president will meet with officials, families, and responders, said Jay Carney, the White House spokesman.

Obama visited storm-ravaged New Jersey on October 31 and met with Gov. Chris Christie.

At that time, he offered to also visit New York City, according to Mayor Mike Bloomberg, but the mayor said he told Obama that the city couldn't deal with a presidential visit at the time.
